FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
United Personality is a premiere, in-depth education in the processes that create our personalities. We also learn where these processes tend to lead us to. United Personality also has a host of common-sense exercises we can do to help speed up uniting our personalities. We accomplish this in 40 short videos.
United Personality is the culmination of over 120 years of psychologic work and research. Major influences include Freud and the many psychoanalysts who developed his work, object relations theory, self psychology, many branches of psychotherapy, attachment theory and medical psychiatric analysis of personality disorders. United Personality is a fascinating journey to the core of our beings.
A lot. We say a lot because the processes we learn to master are so basic to all of life. United Personality also shows us specific outcomes these processes push us towards.
Uniting Our Personalities Creates
- Clearer understanding of the reality around us – and within us
- Clearer goals – a part of our reality – become more motivating
- More motivating goals creates more energy to pursue life with
- Our responses to life become more calm, accurate and oriented to our mature goals
- We learn to avoid unwanted reactivity – Unnecessary hiding
Exaggerated worries
Costly outbursts
The only question is – where could you end up, with all of your being united in purpose.
Unfortunately, Not. We can’t recommend it for anyone having psychological instability that results in difficulties with self control. By the same token, we wouldn’t recommend trying to run a race – with a broken leg, either. We would wait until we’re better. If we’re in treatment, we recommend discussing it with our mental health professional first. And then decide.
The best answer is slowly and repeatedly. United Personality’s in-depth knowledge – that expresses itself freely in our lives – takes time.
So watch each lesson repeatedly until really getting it.
Think about how these processes specifically work inside us.
Think about when these processes work inside us.
After a while, the – why – of these processes becomes clearer too. Then move on to the next lesson. After finishing a few of the lessons, watch them back-to-back a few times and then move further on.
The common-sense exercises included will speed up our growth into our most adult selves.
Self reflection and repetition is the only way we can really understand ourselves at a deep level.
Not at all. All the vocabulary has been distilled down to it’s essence. We take small steps that build on the previous steps. With United Personality, you can have a surface of understanding of personality in a fairly short period of time. The trick to real personal growth, though is to have this information deeply connected throughout our minds. This only really comes with repetition over time.
United Personality is designed in every detail to open our minds to who we are. Over a hundred diagrams create unique opportunities for the information to be easily understood and to help unite us.
Not really. Growing our personalities is more like growing an orchard than growing a garden. It takes a while to bear fruit. But we do get to harvest the benefits – for the rest of our lives.
We don’t really want to change our personalities too quickly. It would be too unsettling.
While personality growth is slow work, it does to tend to stick around once it happens. Why? We live in our personalities. We exercise our more united personalities all day, everyday.
Slow growth also means – slow backsliding.
Nope. Therapy is a deeply personal, professional connection between two people. Or between peoples in a supervised group. We believe therapy has a lot to offer anyone who wants to grow stronger and more capable. We just have to find the right situation for our unique needs.
If we are in therapy, we can ask our therapist if now is the time for us to pursue deep personality exploration.
United Personality is an education in personality and does not diagnose or treat disease.
Very good question.
CLARITY
The infantile, less united parts of our personalities see a dangerous world around us – or within us. More dangerous than the world really is. These fearful meanings create an immature set of unconscious goals. These immature goals can have a broad impact on personality. These immature meanings and goals constantly compete with our mature meanings and goals. This makes us a house divided.
This competition clouds our adult take on reality with more negativity than is actually present. Our adult goals are also clouded by these immature fears. So, our reality and goals are therefore less clear. Certainly, less clear than they could be.
MOTIVATION
Our motivations arise from our goals. Reality informs us how well we are doing relative to our many goals. The more information relates to our goals, the more we respond to the information. This is motivation – us responding to information relevant to our goals.
When our goals are less clear, and our take on reality is less clear – our motivations get watered down. Particularly when excess fears are present. It’s pretty hard to get excited when we’re not as sure what we want – and we’re not as sure what things mean.
While our adult goals mostly when this competition, the process wastes precious energy. We have to push ourselves through life more. Instead of being pulled through life with robust, fully united goals.
A fully united goal is a goal like getting up out of our chair to go make a plate of food at a holiday feast – and we’re starved. Not hard to feel motivated to go do this. This goal – pulls – us to the banquet table without a lot of difficulty. This is life pulling us along.
Now let’s look at a less united goal – paying the bills at the end of the month. Part of us doesn’t want to do this. But our adult side knows we have to do this. So, we – push – ourselves to do it. This is us – pushing – ourselves through life.
Life pulling us along with united goals is a lot more motivating. Certaintly more motivating than pushing ourselves through life with too many unclear goals.
REACTIVITY
And sometimes, our adult goals don’t win out. When our immature, fearful goals win out, then our reactive side emerges. Our unnecessary hiding, excessive worries and costly outbursts.
NOBODY IS PERFECT
Now, nobody is perfect. No one has a perfectly united personality. But the simple fact remains, the more our personality is united, the more our adult goals pull us through life. More of ‘us’ wants to achieve our goals. We aren’t fighting ourselves so much – while we compete in a hungry, competitive world.
